Las Vegas, Nevada, September 22, 2010 – Pat Clark Motorsports rider Ben Bostrom, who recently won both the poll and the race at the 7th round of the 2010 AMA Superbike season at Laguna Seca, will be unable to ride in the upcoming Superbike Classic at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama due to injuries sustained on Labor Day weekend at the New Jersey Motorsports Park.
Racing in Bostrom’s place will be veteran rider Jake Holden, who finished 4th at Laguna Seca and 5th in Race 2 at this year’s Road America in American Superbike. Holden turned Pro in 1999 and has competed regularly in AMA Pro Superbike and Superstock since 2000. Over the past ten years, he has turned in consistently outstanding results.
Bostrom, who was going into Barber with an impressive 4th place ranking, broke ribs four and at the AMA Superbike race in Millville, New Jersey. Bostrom had hoped to recover in time to compete in Birmingham, but decided against doing so after attempting to ride his R1 street bike on Tuesday. Had he been able to race, Bostrom had an excellent chance of getting into the top three. Bostrom was very pleased with the decision to send Holden to Barber in his place. Bostrom said, “Holden is a master at Barber and Laguna. I think he will really do the team justice.”
Riding with Holden on the Pat Clark Motorsports team will be Chris Clark, who is currently in 10th position and hoping to retain that ranking going into the 2011 season. Team Manager, Ron Heben, remains very optimistic about the upcoming race. “Losing Ben this late in the season is a very tough break, but we’ve had a very good year and we believe that Jake Holden is an exceptional rider who has everything that it takes to help us finish strong. Ben’s injuries could have been a lot worse, but there’s no question that Ben and Chris will go into the 2011 season with tremendous momentum behind them.”

MONTEREY, CA, JULY 25 – Ben Bostrom ended a six-year winless drought in AMA Superbike racing with a hard-fought victory over championship leader Josh Hayes today at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, now the site of two of Bostrom’s career AMA Superbike victories and three of his World Superbike wins. The win was also the first ever in AMA Superbike history at Laguna Seca for Yamaha.
Bostrom led early, pushing under Hayes in turn two to nail down the holeshot. From there he looked set to pull away, but he blew the Corkscrew on the second lap, running off on the dirt and motocrossing down the hill to rejoin in third behind then-leader Jake Holden and Hayes. Hayes took over at the front shortly thereafter and it took Bostrom until the seventh lap to get around Holden. From there he took off after Hayes, turning a 1.6-second deficit into .19 of a second by the 13th of 23 laps. On the 15th lap, Bostrom dove under Hayes on the entrance to turn five and made the pass stick.
Hayes didn’t get to the lead in the Superbike title chase by being a rollover and he continued the fight to the bitter end, coming up .440 of a second short as he made Bostrom earn his third career AMA Superbike win. Bostrom’s last win came on July 11, 2004 at Laguna Seca as a member of the factory Honda team. The Californian won his first AMA Superbike race in 1999 at Brainerd on a Ducati.
Third place today went to Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden. Hayden was close early on, but was never really a factor in what was a two-man race. Still, he ended up well clear of Holden and the M4 Monster Suzuki, with Holden’s gaffe in turn 11 on the 11th lap allowing Hayden through.
Foremost Ducati’s Larry Pegram rode to fifth, getting the better of National Guard Suzuki’s Jake Zemke. Then came Cycle World/Attack Suzuki’s Eric Bostrom, the younger brother of the race winner starting slowly but progressing through the field for the entire race. He topped Michael Jordan Motorsports’ Brett McCormick. BMW-mounted Chris Peris and Buell’s Geoff May rounded out the top 10.
Hayes’ consolation was the fact that he extended his lead over Hayden in the championship chase. He now leads the Suzuki rider by nine points, 311-302. Zemke is third with 260 points.

“In ’07 I began my first year of Novice doing WERA West and some stuff and had a really good time and won, I think, eight Novice championships that year,” says Chris. “So going into ’08 we switched over to Bazzaz (renowned engine tuner who ran the team) and to Yamaha. My first races in the Expert class that year weren’t so good, but by the end of the season I started winning them. Also during the ’08 season they built me a 1000 and I’ve always been a bigger kid. I rode that for four rounds and immediately loved it and at some tracks I was only three seconds off the AMA times.”
